Board Member Biographies
Elizabeth (Liz) Guggenheimer (Term: 2007-2013), President: Ms. Guggenheimer is an attorney experienced in legal, regulatory and governance issues related to nonprofit organizations. She is deputy executive director of Lawyers Alliance for New York, which provides legal services to nonprofits improving quality of life in New York City neighborhoods. She previously served as chair of Scarsdale Village Board of Ethics, as a member of Mt. Pleasant-Blythedale School Board, and on several school committees and nonprofit boards. Ms. Guggenheimer graduated from SHS, Harvard College, and NYU School of Law, and received her master’s in public affairs from Princeton. She and her husband Randy have two children, both SHS graduates. Their son is a college freshman after participating in City Year, and their daughter is a college senior.
Suzanne Seiden (Term: 2010-2013), Vice President: Mrs. Seiden is an attorney, formerly practicing in the area of labor and employment, She served as general counsel of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management under President Clinton, and as director of special projects in the Wage and Hour Divisionof the U.S. Department of Labor, where she helped coordinate the Administration's anti-sweatshop initiative. Mrs. Seiden has served as president of the Quaker Ridge and Middle School PTAs, vice-chair of the Scarsdale Task Force on Drugs and Alcohol, co-chair of the PT Council Young Writers' Conference, and publicity chair of the High School PTA Scholarship Fund. Ms. Seiden is a graduate of Tufts University and Boston University School of Law. She and her husband, Kevin Thurm, have three children; one at the Middle School, one at SHS, and one in college.
Mary Beth Gose (Term: 2009-2015): A community volunteer, Ms. Gose's professional background is in investment banking and government consulting with international experience. Before joining the Board, she was a trustee on Scarsdale's Village Board where, among her many community liaison and committee assignments, she served as Fire Commissioner and chair of the Village Board's Finance, Recreation and Personnel Committees. A former president of the League of Women Voters of Westchester, she has also served with the Scarsdale League of Women Voters, was treasurer of the Scarsdale Forum (TVCC), and chair of its Education Committee. Ms. Gose graduated from Dartmouth College and earned her MBA at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. She has two children, one at SHS and one at college
Lewis Leone, Jr. (Term: 2010-2015): Mr. Leone is vice president and general manager of WNYW-FOX 5 and WWOR-My9, FOX Television Stations' New York duopoly, and is a board member for the New York State Broadcasters Association. He is also on the board of PENCIL (Public Education Needs Civic Involvement in Learning), the New York City Police Museum, and the Westchester Chapter of the National Football Foundation. He serves as a corporate advisory board member for the Committee for Hispanic Children and Families and is a member of the Business Committee for the Metropolitan Museum. In Scarsdale, Mr. Leone has been very active coaching youth sports for the past decade, including football, baseball and lacrosse. He has served on the boards of Maroon and White and Scarsdale Youth Football. Leone is a graduate of Princeton University with a bachelor's degree in economics. He graduated from Scarsdale High School in 1977; he and his wife Wendy have two children, one at SHS and one in college.
Jonathan Lewis (Term: 2011-2014): Mr. Lewis is a co-founder of Samson Capital Advisors where he serves as Chief Investment Officer and a Managing Principal of the firm. He is president of the Westchester Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and a former vice president and trustee of the American Jewish Historical Society. He is a member of the investment committee of the Phi Beta Kappa Foundation and a former trustee of The Fellows of Phi Beta Kappa. He has served as president of the Scarsdale Forum (TVCC), vice president of the Scarsdale Historical Society, vice president of the Arthur Manor Neighborhood Association, and a member of the SBNC. He has been a Scarsdale Little League coach and a presenter at the Scarsdale Young Writers Conference. He is the author ofSpy Capitalism: Itek and the CIAand co-author ofReflections of a Cold Warrior,both published by Yale University Press. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and holds an MA in history from New York University and an MBA in finance and management of organizations from Columbia University. He and his wife Laura have two children, both of whom attend Scarsdale Schools.
Jill Spieler (Term: 2007-2013): Ms. Spieler is a computer graphic designer and project manager at a marketing group in Westchester. Before joining the Board, she served as president of the Town and Village Civic Club Education Forum, president of Kids BASE and the Little School, chair of Scarsdale'sParks and Recreation Council, and chair of the Citizens Nominating and Procedure Committees. She has also served on the Advisory Council on Youth, School Board Nominating Committee, School Board Legislative Committee, Village Board of Ethics, and Scarsdale and Westchester League of Women Voters. Ms. Spieler is a graduate of Queens College. She and her husband, Gary, have two children, both SHS graduates.
Sunil Subbakrishna (Term: 2011-2014): Mr. Subbakrishna is a management consultant who helps organizations increase their competitiveness through information technology. His clients are financial institutions and other global corporations, as well as major nonprofits. He has served as co-chair of the Scarsdale Technology Advisory Council, and board member of the Overhill Neighborhood Association. Mr. Subbakrishna has an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Illinois, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Washington University in St. Louis. He was born in Bangalore, India and raised in Evanston, Illinois. He and his wife Geetha have lived in Scarsdale since 1994, and have two children, one at SHS and one SHS alumnus.
