Lessons in Empathy

Parents: In support of our school's focus on Teaching Empathy, we would like to remind you...

As mentioned at Open House and Parent Coffees, the PTA is asking parents to support the school's Empathy Initiative by NOT having our children wear the sweatshirts or other party-favor clothing they receive at Bar/Bat Mitzvahs or other parties TO SCHOOL

Why?

Children who are not invited to the party feel excluded when they see dozens of kids wearing these clothes at school.

The SMS House Counselors will be speaking with the students  about this issue, and similar issues,  to raise student awareness and teach empathy.

Please support this effort and ask your kids to enjoy their party-favor clothing OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL.

If you have any questions or comments on this topic, please contact PTA President Pam Fuehrer at pfuehrer3@gmail.com.

Thanks for your support,
SMS PTA  Executive Board

RACHEL'S CHALLENGE

Working to inspire, equip and empower every person to create a permanent positive culture change in their school and community by starting a chain reaction of kindness and compassion.

Rachel Scott was the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999.  She left behind an amazing legacy and a simple challenge to anyone who will accept it -- treat others with kindness and compassion and you just may change the world you live in.
