THINK COMMUNITY SERVICE

Many of us say “I wish I had the time to give, but I am so busy with stuff.” During Senior Options you aren’t. You can devote that time.

The last six weeks of your senior year might be very good time to follow up on outside, extracurricular club activities you were always interested in but never had the time to do.

There are so many choices. Work with poor. Work with children. Work with homeless. Work in poor schools. A huge list of community service organizations are in our database. Others are a fingertip away or a word of mouth away. You may know family or friends involved in causes you may want to join. You may have been in a club. You may have heard of some alumni who have started organizations like “Let’s Get Ready”, a free SAT and standardized test tutoring service in places like Mt Vernon and New Rochelle.

You may know that as early as your sophomore year here, this district and community have adopted the Bay Saint Louis-Waveland School District to help it get their kids back to rebuilt and resupplied schools.

You may also know that members of the past two senior classes, as part of their Senior Options experience, have gone to the towns of Bay Saint Louis and Waveland on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi to help families get back into their Katrina destroyed homes and work with the children of these communities in a privately funded summer program. Do a senior options project there, or come with us from June 16-21ST . Be a part of our efforts to help them rebuild their lives.

Informational meetings about this trip and fund-raising efforts for the BSWD will be announced.

Do something. Feel good about doing good. We have given you the time.
