PLAN YOUR OPTION
The second most important key
to a successful Project
is a well planned Proposal.

You may not start Senior Options without an APPROVED, well planned Proposal. The Proposal describes in detail exactly what you PLAN to do during Senior Options. It also includes the role your sponsor will play as part of your Senior Option. As such, it also acts as a contract between you and your Sponsor

Decide what TYPE of Senior Option Experience you would like to have:

1. Full Internship – 30 hours working at an internship with a designated sponsor (see Time on Task Requirements).

2. Partial Internship – minimum of 20 hours working at an internship with a designated sponsor and up to 10 hours of self-directed. Independent study equaling 30 hours per week (see Time on Task Requirements).

3. Extended Independent Study -- If you have a passion or desire to design your own independent study with more than 10 hours of independent work per week, you have the option of petitioning the Senior Options Committee (see Petition Requirements for Extended Independent Study).

After you have decided on the TYPE of experience:

1. Involve parents and professionals in the field, as well as your mentor.

2. Gather detailed information about your site and your sponsor.

3. Create a well-thought out plan of activities that will be part of your experience.

4. Draft a well organized, properly written proposal suitable to be read by a panel of teachers, parents and students (Approval depends on detail and clarity.) Bounce all ideas and drafts off your mentor and sponsor.

5. Draft your proposal as a Word Document. Be sure you follow all standards and criteria. When all revisions are complete, you will cut and paste the document into your on-line proposal.

Your proposal must include:

1. Project goals & objectives

2. An essential question that you will be exploring

3. A rationale for the experience you have chosen (full or partial internship)

4. A detailed schedule (including an accounting of my time) of what you will be doing on a daily basis

5. An explanation of how these activities will relate to your goals & objectives

6. A description of my sponsor’s role in my experience

7. A consideration of AP exam schedule along with other legal absences
(see Important Tips)

• Your final version, submitted online, will be a contract to be agreed to and signed by you, your mentor, sponsor, and parents. Make sure they review it BEFORE you submit it and BEFORE they sign the Proposal Contract Signature Form.

• If you are in a group: SUBMIT ONE PROPOSAL FOR THE ENTIRE GROUP.
