If you wish to increase
your independent study hours to more than 10 hours you must petition
the Senior Options Committee for consideration of your proposal:
1. Design a proposal clearly identifying the number of hours you will

in self-directed study.
2.
Provide a detailed explanation of rationale and schedule of self-directed
hours.
3.
Student must have a sponsor with expertise and responsibilities in your
area of interest.
4. The mentor must agree and sign off on the rationale and plan for
the rebalancing of internship/independent hours.
5. The mentor must state in writing that he/she is willing to put in
the extra time necessary to adequately monitor a student who has opted
to do an independent project.
6. Meet with the Senior Options Committee to present this written proposal.
You will meet with a panel of 2-3 teachers who will read the written

project that will require sufficient hours, will be a worthwhile learning
