CHOOSE A MENTOR
The key to a successful Senior Options
is the Mentor-Mentee Relationship.

Between 1/28 and 2/5/08 you may ask a staff member to be your mentor. You must complete a downloaded mentor commitment form and return it to the YELLOW BOX IN THE SENIOR OPTIONS OFFICE (room 165) by 2/4/08.

Make sure your e-mail address is accurate AND LEGIBLE. We use it to contact you.

Those students who have not selected their mentors by the deadline will be matched with teachers of senior
classes who are still available.

Staff will not accept mentees before 1/28/08.

Primary Mentors:

Ask teachers who teach senior classes first. The website provides a list of teachers who teach senior classes and their availability. Senior classes are defined as being made up entirely of seniors.

Teachers of senior classes must have between 4-6 mentees per class lost. No mentor shall have more than 10 mentees. This includes any mentees working in groups.

Many mentors with more requests than spots use a lottery system. Make sure you know the rules of their system and understand the consequences of not being chosen.

Any mentor seeking to exceed these limits must approach the Committee for specific permission.

Secondary Mentors:

All other staff may take up to 2 individual mentees or one group.
This includes non teachers as well, as long as they are employed in the building.

Groups:

Groups are capped at a maximum of 4 seniors working together on the same project.
All mentees in the same group must have the same mentor.

BE ABSOLUTELY SURE. JOIN A GROUP FOR THE RIGHT REASONS ONLY.
SUCCESSFUL GROUPS ARE BASED ON A COMMON SET INTERESTS, GOALS AND OBJECTIVES, NOT FRIENDSHIP.

Case Managers: A staff member on the Senior Options Committee is assigned to assist you and your mentor, approve your sponsor and proposal (as part of a subcommittee), and enter your grades. They are not your mentor.
