Scarsdale Middle School offers a comprehensive music program that meets the needs of a broad spectrum of student interests and capabilities. Our choral and instrumental performing organizations continue to develop fundamental technical and ensemble skills through the application of critical listening and thinking. Evidence of student learning is showcased through public performances in the winter and spring of each year. Additional performance opportunities include NYSSMA festivals, All-County Orchestra, Chorus, and Band, Chamber Ensembles, and All-District and SMS Jazz Bands.
Exploring Music offers an extensive yearlong course of musical experiences, using the elements of music and advanced technology to enhance the learning of literacy skills. The curriculum is comprised of basic introductions to recorder, guitar, piano, and composition along with use of the music technology lab.
All music students study the historical and cultural heritage of our nation and world cultures in this global society through choice of repertoire and course materials.
