On October 20, 2009 students from Honors Geology and AT
Chemistry traveled to eastern Pennsylvania, the center of anthracite coal.In addition to going to several coal mines
and speaking directly with miners, the students saw classic examples of
structural geology exposed in the local rock formations. The trip also gave us invaluable experiences
of the economic, social, and environmental impact of the rise and fall of the
mining industry in the region.
