The Circular Track

At our school the track is in a circle with six flags spaced equally around it. Yesterday, the three fastest runners in our class lined up at the first flag and started to race all of the way around the track. Elroy took 30 seconds to get to the third flag.
How long did it take him to get all of the way around the track if he kept on at the same rate?

Hint: Most people only find the correct solution after drawing a picture.

Correct if I'm wrong, I just briefly looked through it. It's 1 minute.

It really does help if you draw a picture. it is 75 seconds. At first glance you would assume it is 1 minute, but it is 1 minute and 15 seconds.

It's 90sec. Each time you go from one flag to another it takes 15sec. THere are six spaces in between the flag, and 6x15=90. The 90 means 90 seconds. 90 seconds is equal to 1min. 30sec.

Oh, yes. Robby is right. I forgot you had to go from flag 6 to flag 1 again.

It is really simple if you draw a picture. If it takes 30 secs to get from the 1st flag to the 3rd flag, then it would take 30 secs to get from the 3 flag to the 5th flag, and then from the 5th flag to the 6th flag it would take 15 sec, and if you added it up, you would get 75 secs in all.

If you go around once it will take 90 secs. If it takes 30 secs to go from the 1-3 flag, and the same from the 3-5 flag, and also from the 5-1 flag, and you add it up, it will take 90 secs.

T he hint is good. a picture makes it very easy. You cover two intervals of flags in 30 seconds. That means 15 seconds for one interval and there are six total intervals. 15x6=90 seconds. Or a minute and a half.
