Third grade musicians are being introduced to the recorder, a wind instrument that dates back to the Renaissance and is the predecessor to the flute. They have seen professional musicians play and now know that it is not a toy or a classroom instrument only and that there are many voices of recorders. They are learning proper playing techniques as part of an integrated general music class so they are using the recorder for improvisation and even dance!
