Role of the Mentor 

 

Before Senior Options begins:

 

ð       Work with students to secure an internship and write/submit a proposal.

ð       Work with students who have to revise their proposals.

ð       Be clear about whether you are comfortable with an independent project versus an internship.

ð       Contact internship sites prior to students leaving for senior options.

ð       Contact parents when students have a completed proposal to make sure they are on board.

 

 

After Senior Options begins:

 

ð       Meet with student at least once a week for internships and 2 or more times/week for independent projects

ð       During your weekly meetings, check the student time log, student journals and help students reflect on their experiences.

ð       Follow up with the sponsor after the student has been working for 2 weeks.

ð       make at least one site visit.

ð       Contact parents if students are not fulfilling their requirements.

ð       Contact your case manager or Ann Liptak if students are not fulfilling their requirements.

ð       When senior options nears closure, sign up for a presentation time.

ð       Help your students create their final presentation.

 

 

After Senior Options ends:

 

ð       Complete a final evaluation form
